Hey, it’s me, after a looong time, 3 weeks I guess. We were away for a week in May for a lovely vacation and post that it took me sometime to actually come back to the real world. So here I am with my latest.
New mommies or Expecting ladies, Are you LUCKY or what? 2017 got some great news for you.
“Indian Parliament approved a bill granting women working in the organised sector paid maternity leave of 26 weeks, up from 12 weeks now, a decision which will benefit around 1.8 million women”.
Maternity leave, a time when mother and child bond, a very important time indeed, needs to be given 3 months and more.
And I was ecstatic when this was announced in March, however my blog did not exist then, hence no post was written with this subject in mind.
Now I have one cousin and 2 friends who are 8 months pregnant and expecting respectively, and I think they couldn’t have decided on a better time for the stork to visit them.
3 months is very little time for a new mother to adjust to her new lifestyle. Caring for the baby and caring for herself along with medicines and sleepless nights.
By the end of 3 months the new mommy has simply got use to her new routine and Boom! It turns all around when you have to start working and run off every morning, and then a new routine needs to be set in.
The sleepless nights don’t usually ease off after 3 months and the baby routine is pretty much the same until 6 months. So Working mothers (and Hats off to them) really juggle a lot and it is quite a test.
Forget the work, even leaving your 3 month old child in the morning to a day care or with a nanny or granny, most mommies say that goodbye with a heavy heart. It’s NOT easy.
Plus, deliveries in this decade are expensive. Families today need a 2 person income to raise one child with baby care supplies, vaccines and education expenses touching the sky.
I was not a service professional as I was freelancing as a designer when I got my pregnancy news .So there was no question of quitting a job or rejoining.
But I do know many mommies who have quit their jobs post pregnancy and also a month or so after the maternity leave then (which was 12 weeks till last year).
Now that our country has ranked 3rd in providing highest duration of paid maternity leave, new mothers can heave a sigh of relief.
Yes, 3 months go by in a blink of the eye, and the remaining 3 months, when things get a little easier, you can start post pregnancy exercises along with a good diet plan.
Also, it’s a good idea to research a few good daycares in your area and plan for the coming 6 months when you will be at work. Set a routine earlier before joining work and play into it as much as possible.
I can safely say our government has probably taken an excellent decision for the first time for the benefit of mothers and this was announced the next day of International women’s day. Way to go India!
